French coffee types, Turkish and espresso, reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s first. A study in Finland found that consuming 3 to 5 cups of coffee a day reduced the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia by 65%.
There are two theories about how coffee works and how it reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The first theory states that Alzheimer’s and dementia are a complication of type 2 diabetes and because it is one of the properties of espresso, French and Turkish coffee to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, it reduces Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The second theory states that the two main symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease are amyloid plaques and fibrils within the neuron. Coffee consumption prevents the formation of these plaques and clots, which are the main cause of Alzheimer’s disease.
Other properties of espresso coffee, Turkish and French, reduce the risk of heart disease. Another study of 37,000 people consuming coffee in the Netherlands over a 13-year period found that consuming 2 to 4 cups of coffee a day (regardless of espresso, cappuccino, Americano, French and Turkish) was a risk.
